Former UN Under-Secretary-General Acharya and Delegation Visit Tsinghua SPPM

    On the morning of March 12, Gyan Chandra Acharya, former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and former Ambassador of Nepal to the United Kingdom, together with Roshan Khanal, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim at the Embassy of Nepal in China, visited the School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University (Tsinghua SPPM). Professor Zhu Xufeng, Dean of Tsinghua SPPM and Executive Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development Goals of Tsinghua University (Tsinghua SDG Institute); Zheng Yi, Head of the Tsinghua SDG Institute Office, and Peng Si, Program Manager; along with Liu Hang and Bi Yifei, Program Managers at the Tsinghua SPPM's Office of International Affairs, took part in the meeting.

    On behalf of Tsinghua SPPM, Zhu Xufeng extended a warm welcome to the Nepali delegation and gave an overview of the School, covering its core profile, research work, and international cooperation. He noted that China and Nepal are linked by mountains and rivers and share a deep friendship and a solid foundation for cooperation. This meeting, he said, has built a strong platform for exchange between the two countries, and he hopes to seize this opportunity to deepen practical cooperation in areas such as talent cultivation and academic research.

    Gyan Chandra Acharya thanked Tsinghua SPPM for the warm reception and expressed high appreciation for Tsinghua University's establishment of the Institute for Sustainable Development Goals. He observed that integrating research on public administration and government governance with sustainable development not only provides professional policy research and intellectual support for the implementation of the global Sustainable Development Goals, but also fosters synergistic innovation between public administration practice and sustainable development principles, offering an important reference for countries seeking to address development challenges and explore pathways for practical cooperation. He noted that Nepal greatly values the substantial development achievements China has made as a key partner, and is eager to learn from China's successful experience in relevant fields. Looking ahead, Nepal hopes to deepen international cooperation with China in areas including trade, investment, technology transfer, and education, taking bilateral relations to a new level.

    In her concluding remarks, Roshan Khanal thanked Tsinghua SPPM for the careful organization and warm hospitality. She noted that this year marks the launch of China's 15th Five-Year Plan, which brings new opportunities for deepening China-Nepal cooperation across various fields. The Embassy of Nepal in China, she said, will continue to facilitate engagement and cooperation between Nepali universities and research institutions and Tsinghua SPPM, strengthening collaboration in areas such as scientific and technological exchange, talent cultivation, and sustainable development practice.

    The meeting was also attended by representatives of Nepali students based in Beijing and Nepali students enrolled in the School's international programs. The young participants engaged actively in the exchange, contributing to a friendly and lively atmosphere that further strengthened people-to-people exchange and youth friendship between China and Nepal.
