TUSDG Delegation Attends the Fourth Eurasia Forum

The 4th Eurasia Forum, hosted by the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, was held in Budapest, Hungary, on 23-24 November. Entitled "Transformation for Sustainability", the forum featured expert discussions on six themes: economy, finance, geopolitics, multilateral cooperation, technology and education, with the aim of promoting in-depth global dialogue and cooperation and contributing to the sustainable development of the Eurasia region. Guests came from Hungary, China, Austria, Germany, India, Italy, Kazakhstan, Poland, South Korea, Singapore, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, Dubai, Oman, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada. More than 200 people attended the forum, including government officials, business leaders, think tanks and scholars from the Eurasian region on site.

György H Matolcsy, Governor of the Central Bank of Hungary (Magyar Nemzeti Bank), delivered a welcome speech, warmly welcoming the experts on behalf of the organizer. Mihály VARGA Minister of Finance of Hungary, Wu Hongbo, China’s Special Representative on European Affairs, Sung-han KIM, Professor of the Graduate School of International Studies of Korea University, former National Security Advisor to the President of South Korea, and Cai Xuejun, Director of the Silk Road Fund made keynote speeches respectively.

In the closing session, Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development of Columbia University and Chairman of TUSDG Academic Committee, engaged the moderator in an in-depth dialogue on hot topics such as current global geopolitical challenges and the need for mutual trust and cooperation.

Dialogue with Prof. Jeffrey Sachs

Launched in 2019, the Eurasia Forum in Budapest aims to create a global platform for dialogue and exchange among the most influential political, business and academic leaders in the Eurasian region. Each year, the Eurasia Forum covers a wide range of topics, including finance, economy, geopolitics, multilateral cooperation, technology, education and culture, and discusses current global challenges in the field of sustainable development, with a view to promoting friendly exchanges and co-operation in the Eurasian region, and jointly fostering sustainable and prosperous development.

In 2013, China launched the Belt and Road Initiative. In 2015, Hungary became the first European country to sign the Belt and Road Initiative with China. In 2017, China and Hungary established a comprehensive strategic partnership, which has brought bilateral relations into the best period in history. In 2023, Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán Viktor attended the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation for the third time in a row, which fully demonstrates the importance of China and Hungary's cooperation. This fully reflects the partnership of mutual trust, friendship and cooperation between China and Hungary.
