TUSDG Director Xue Lan Attends the 4th Meeting of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) 2023
The 4th Meeting of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) 2023 was held in San Francisco from 11 to 13 November local time in the U.S. Xue Lan, Distinguished Professor of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences of Tsinghua University, Dean of Schwarzman College of Tsinghua University and Director of Institute for Sustainable Development Goals of Tsinghua University (TUSDG), and Chen Ling, Director of Center for Industrial Development and Environmental Governance of Tsinghua University, and Associate Professor of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University, attended the Sustainable Growth Working Group Meeting.
Prof. Xue Lan shared his views on "Towards a Sustainable Future: The Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Need to Improve AI Governance", analysed in-depth the application and challenges of AI in achieving the SDGs, and shared his views with the audience on AI governance issues such as the external regulation and internal compliance of AI technologies, and how to achieve better coordination and cooperation through agile governance. Professor Xue Lan pointed out that in the long run, AI governance should move towards an agile governance model with multi-agents cooperation, and that all sectors of the international community should work together on the premise of cooperation for win-win situation, to promote the good development of AI in terms of the establishment of AI governance norms and regulations, so as to push forward the further deepening of the consensus on global AI governance. The meeting conducted in-depth exchanges with representatives of the Asia-Pacific business community on topics such as regional economic integration, sustainable growth and digital innovation, etc.
