Prof. Xue Lan Introduces the Flagship Research on “Belt and Road” Green Development Prospect

As the flagship research project of the BRI International Green Development Coalition, the report covers 139 “Belt and Road” countries and conducts in-depth assessments of 44 countries, integrating economic, social and environmental dimensions, and emphasising that green development is composed of two aspects, namely, "green" and "development". It focuses on the two-way interaction and integration of the two, to use green leading development, to use development promoting green. By systematically reviewing the work of the past decade, the report points out that from 2010 to 2020, the overall green development of the countries in the “Belt and Road” Initiative is favourable, the green development index of the countries is increasingly high, and the growth rate is accelerated.

Based on this, the report puts forward the following five outlooks: (1) promoting communication on ecological and environmental protection policies; (2) preventing environmental risks in infrastructure construction; (3) continuing to promote post-pandemic economic recovery, and facilitating the green and low-carbon transformation of BRI countries; (4) strengthening people-to-people exchanges on environmental protection, and facilitating the capacity building of BRI countries; and (5) focusing on the key areas of the key countries, deepening cooperation on green development.
