On December 21, 2022, TUSDG held ‘the Joint Meeting of Institute for Sustainable Development Goals of Tsinghua University (TUSDG) Management Committee and Steering Committee’ successfully.
The meeting was chaired by Yang Bin, Professor & Vice President of Tsinghua University, Director of TUSDG Management Committee. Wu Hongbo, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on European Affairs and former Under- Secretary-General of the United Nations, Liu Yanhua, Honorary Director of the National Climate of Expert on Climate Change, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the P.R.C., Deng Guosheng, Professor & Associate Dean of the School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University, Liu Yi, Professor & Dean of the School of Environment of Tsinghua University, Peng Kaihua, Professor & Dean of the School of Social Sciences of Tsinghua University, Su Jun, Director of Think Tank Research Centre of Tsinghua University, Professor of Tsinghua SPPM, Wang Can, Professor & Director of the Department of Environmental Planning and Management of School of Environment of Tsinghua University, Vice Director of TUSDG, Xu Peng, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MEBO Group, Xue Lan, Dean of Schwarzman College of Tsinghua University, Professor of Tsinghua SPPM, Director of TUSDG, Zhang Yue, Party Secretary & Professor of School of Architecture of Tsinghua University, Zhu Junming, Associate Professor & Associate Dean of Tsinghua SPPM, Vice Director of TUSDG, and Zhu Xufeng, Executive Dean & Professor of Tsinghua SPPM, Executive Director of TUSDG, attended the meeting.

In his opening speech, Wu Hongbo expressed that in the global epidemic, international politics and economic tensions, the Chinese government timely put forward the ‘Global Security Initiative’ and ‘Global Development Initiative’, widely recognized by the international community. With the policy adjustment of China’s Covid-19 control, international cooperation and exchange will be warming up in the future. He hoped that TUSDG would grasp the opportunity of the post pandemic era, continue to give full play to the role and influence of higher education, and base on the height of the national development strategy, take the community of human destiny as its own responsibility, and contribute to the sustainable development of the world with academic strength.
Afterwards, Prof Zhu Xufeng, on behalf of TUSDG, introduced the progress and achievements of the Institute in 2022 in terms of scientific research achievements, academic exchanges, talent training, social impact, institutional development and financial status. The members agreed and praised the development and achievements of TUSDG at the present stage, and gave constructive opinions on TUSDG’s future scientific research construction, international exchanges, and think tank development.
In conclusion, Yang Bin stressed that President Xi Jinping once again mentioned the two ‘global initiatives’ and the meaning behind at the G20 Summit in Indonesia that China has always been taking concrete actions to show to the world that it is committed to the cause of peace and development of the world with its internationalist sentiments. Tsinghua University, as a member of the main body of Chinese higher education, has responded positively to China’s participation in global governance and the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In the future, we hope that TUSDG will contribute more ‘Chinese wisdom’ to the cause of global sustainable development with the cooperation of all the members.
