On the afternoon of 25th March, the 149th Ming De Forum, hosted by the School of Public Policy & Management, Tsinghua University (SPPM) and co-organized by Institute for Sustainable Development Goals, Tsinghua University (Tsinghua SDG Institute), was held in SPPM Room 302. Mike Harris, Hollywood producer, internationally renowned explorer, writer and international maritime history scholar, delivered a speech on the topic of 'Enlightenment of Chinese and Foreign Adventures On Sustainable Human Civilization From A Western Perspective'. Professor of SPPM Poon Kit moderated the forum.
Starting from his early experience of prospecting the Titanic, Mr Harris then talked in detail about his academic research with Beijing's Ming dynasty historians on Zheng He's Voyages. He then outlined the inextricable link between the Silk Road, the Belt and Road and the UN Sustainable Development Goals in their common endeavour to build a better home for all, and emphasised that global sustainable energy development actions inspired by Zheng He's voyage will continue to improve the lives of millions of people along the Maritime Silk Road.
