TUSDG Attends 2018 Global Engagement & Empowerment Forum

On 7th-8th February 2018, the inaugural Global Engagement & Empowerment Forum on Sustainable Development (GEEF-SD) was successfully held in Seoul, Republic of Korea. This forum is co-hosted by the Institute for Global Engagement and Empowerment (IGEE) and the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens. Setting “putting People and Planet at the Center” as its main theme, the Forum served as a platform for all stakeholders and actors to collaborate towards accomplishing the United Nation’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, President of UN General Assembly Miroslav Lajčák and Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Lee Nak-yeon addressed the keynote speeches at the opening session. Ban Ki-moon, the 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations and Co-Chair of the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens, Heinz Gischer, 11th President of Austria and Co-Chair of Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens, Jack Ma(马云), Founder & Executive Chairman of Alibaba, Kim Yong-Hak, President of Yonsei University attended the forum.

Jeffrey Sachs, Director of Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University and Chair of the International Academic Committee of the Institute for Sustainable Development Goals of Tsinghua University (TUSDG) presented a speech on ‘Sustainable Development: Putting People and Planet at the Center’. On behalf of the TUSDG, Executive Director of the TUSDG and Associate Dean of the School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University (SPPM) Prof. Zhu Xufeng and Head of the TUSDG Office Ms. Zheng Yi were invited to this forum.
