Official Side Event of the 2023 United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development Goals, ‘Innovation for Industrial Sustainability’, Held in New York
On 17 September, an event on Innovation for Industrial Sustainability was held in New York, hosted by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and Tsinghua University, and co-sponsored by UN Water. UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Junhua, UN Water Chairperson and Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Gilbert F. Houngbo, Senior Professor of Liberal Arts at Tsinghua University, Dean of Schwarzman College, and Director of the TUSDG, professor of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University's Earth Institute, and Chairman of the International Academic Committee of the TUSDG, Jeffery Sachs, attended the event and delivered speeches. At the same time, the event invited representatives of Chinese and foreign business communities to dialogue and exchange views on topics such as public-private partnerships and sustainable industrial innovation practices. The event is an official side event of the 2023 United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Held every four years, the Summit is the highest level UN summit on sustainable development, and this year's summit coincides with the mid-term review of the implementation of the SDGs. The event is organised with the support of the Centre for Industrial Development and Environmental Governance, Tsinghua University and the Sustainable Entrepreneurs Platform. As a core event of the General Assembly High-level Week 2023, the SDG Summit was held on 18-19 September in New York. Leaders are gathering to work towards a common goal: to put the world back on track and create a greener, cleaner, safer and fairer future for all.The Summit will adopt a forward-looking political declaration reaffirming commitment to the transformative goal of ‘leaving no one behind’ at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Over the course of two days, participants will agree on how best to move forward.
