Expert Seminar on ‘International Cooperation and China's Action on Global Climate Governance’ Successfully Held

On 23 October 2022, an expert seminar on ‘International Cooperation and China's Actions on Global Climate Governance’, hosted by the Institute of Sustainable Development Goals, Tsinghua Univeristy (TUSDG), was successfully held at Wenjin International Hotel. Wang Yi, member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), deputy director of the National Climate Change Expert Committee, and researcher at the Institute of Science and Development, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Li Junfeng, President of HongShan Capital Group Carbon Neutral Research Institute and the first Director of the National Centre for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NCSC), Qiu Huili, Researcher, Tsinghua University-CASAD Research Center for Synergetic-development of Science and Society; Xu Peng, Chairman of the Board of Directors, MEBO Group, Zhang Junjie, Associate Professor, Nicholas School of the Environment, Duke University, and Director, the Initiative for Sustainable Investment, Duke Kunshan University, Zhu Xufeng, Executive Director of TUSDG and Executive Dean of School of Public Policy and Management (SPPM), Tsinghua University, Zhang Fang, Assistant Professor of SPPM, and other guests attended the seminar, while Zhu Junming, Vice Director of TUSDG and Associate Professor of SPPM moderated the session.

Wang Yi, Qiu Huili and Zhu Xufeng delivered keynote speeches on the topics of ‘Challenges of Global Climate Co-operation and China's Carbon Neutral Governance System’, ‘Ethical Issues and Governance Paths of Geo-Engineering’, and ‘Global Governance, Commitment of Great Powers, and Central-Land Coordination Mechanisms for China's Implementation of Sustainable Development’ respectively. Participating experts and scholars expressed their insights on geoengineering, global climate governance and sustainable development, and conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on technologies such as carbon dioxide removal and solar radiation intervention in geoengineering, and global cooperation on climate change and China's climate action.
