The First Meeting of the First Board of Directors of Tsinghua SDG Institute was Successfully Held

On December 20, 2021, the first meeting of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Sustainable Development Goals of Tsinghua University (Tsinghua SDG Institute/ TUSDG) was held online. According to the “Regulations on the Administration of Research Institutions of Tsinghua University” and “Measures for the Administration of Autonomous Research Institutions of Tsinghua University at the University Level”, the Board of Directors, as an important framework for autonomous research institutions on the university, can better connect with relevant departments and faculties, and at the same time help the institution to serve the development of the university.

The meeting was chaired by Professor Yang Bin, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Vice President and Provost of Tsinghua University, and Director of the Board of Directors of the TUSDG; Ambassador Wu Hongbo, Special Representative of the Chinese Government for European Affairs, former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, and Co-Director of the TUSDG, delivered a speech; Professor Xue Lan, President of the Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University and Co-Director of the TUSDG; Professor Su Jun, Director of the Center of Tsinghua Think Tank, Tsinghua University, Professor Liu Yi, Dean of the School of the Environment, Professor Deng Guosheng, Associate Dean of the School of Public Policy and Management, Professor Zhu Xufeng, Executive Associate Dean of the School of Public Policy and Management and Executive Director of the TUSDG, Professor Wang Can, Director of the Department of Environmental Planning and Management of the School of Environment and Vice Director of the TUSDG, and Associate Professor Zhu Junming, Vice Director of the TUSDG, were present at the meeting.

In his opening speech, Ambassador Wu Hongbo pointed out that China will continue to unswervingly take the path of sustainable development, and that the TUSDG, as an academic platform for higher education in China, should give full play to its role as the main body of education and influence, and dedicate itself to the mission of the country with its academic strength. The members expressed that they would continue to support the development of the T in all aspects, and contribute to the organization's internal and global orientation, and help promote China's participation in global governance and the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Yang Bin, Director of Tsinghua University, concluded that the Tsinghua University Report on Sustainable Development Goals, which was completed by the TUSDG, is not only crucial for the university to sort out its own work and promote international exchange and cooperation, but also has caused a great deal of repercussions both at home and abroad, demonstrating the determination of the university to be closely integrated with the global development. TUSDG should continue its work in the future, and give better play to its platform advantages to promote the mutual learning of China's experiences in the international arena,  and make unremitting efforts for the a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
