From September 26 to 30, 2019, the “State Grid Corporation of China Sustainability Management Training Course”, co-sponsored by the School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University (SPPM) and State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), and organized by the Institute for Sustainable Development Goals of Tsinghua University (Tsinghua SDG Institute) and the Cadre Education Center of SPPM, was successfully held in Beijing, China. With the theme of “Sustainable Development Goals and Enterprise Transformation”, the training course was attended by 200 middle-level decision-makers and managers from the headquarters of SGCC, provincial companies and local municipal companies.
The course training in the following days mainly covered four major themes: the overall framework and concept of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), global governance and SDGs, climate change and energy transformation, and business transformation. At the same time, together with renowned experts from the domestic academic and business sectors, including Pan Jiahua, professor at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), director of the Institute of Urban and Environment at CASS, member of the National Expert Committee on Climate Change, member of the International Academic Committee of the Tsinghua SDG Institute. Qian Xiaojun, Professor of the Department of Leadership and Organizational Management, School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University, and Vice Dean of Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University; Zhu Xufeng, Professor and Associate Dean of the SPPM, Tsinghua University, and Executive Director of the Tsinghua SDG Institute; Poon Kit, Professor of the SPPM, Tsinghua University, and Former Deputy Director of Hong Kong's Environmental Protection Bureau. Gao Yuning, Associate Professor of SPPM, Tsinghua University, and Guo Peiyuan, General Manager of SynTao, joined together to teach each participant about the future transformation challenges and development of Chinese enterprises in the era of the global SDGs from the diversified perspectives of global governance, governmental departments, and the private sector.
The SPPM and the Advanced Training Centre of SGCC signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement in 2016, combining the strengths of both parties to promote in-depth cooperation in the fields of teaching and research, cadre training and decision-making consulting. The ‘State Grid Corporation of China Sustainability Management Training Course’ is an important milestone on the road to witnessing the friendly cooperation between the two sides, and at the same time, it provides an important conceptual guideline and practical reference to promote China's enterprises to implement the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
