The 48th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting was held from 23 to 26 January in Davos, Switzerland. The theme of this year's meeting was ‘Building a Common Destiny in a Divided World’, with 70 Heads of State and Government and 45 heads of international organisations attending. Liu He, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Director of the Office of the Central Leading Group of Finance and Economics, attended the meeting on behalf of China, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the forum. Modi, Prime Minister of India, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the forum, and Donald Trump, President of the United States, delivered a speech at the closing ceremony.
Tsinghua University, led by President Qiu Yong himself, kicked off its first trip in 2018, attending a series of multilateral and bilateral exchange activities consecutively in three days to discuss cooperation with global leaders in politics, academia, business, and international organisations, and to open up new horizons for the implementation of global strategies, with Xue Lan, Dean of Tsinghua University's SPPM and Director of the TUSDG; Zhu Min, President of the National Institute of Financial Research, Li Jinliang, Head of the International Division Mr Li Jiaqiang, Secretary General of the Education Foundation, attended the relevant activities.
Moderator of the panel discussion on ‘China-ASEAN Co-operation: A New Era of China-ASEAN Co-operation’ at the 2nd Belt and Road Davos Forum
Tsinghua University, together with the Centre for International Cooperation of the National Development and Reform Commission of China and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), co-hosted the second Belt and Road Davos Forum in Davos on 24 January, focusing on the theme of ‘A New Kind of Globalisation and Regional Cooperation’. Politicians, business leaders, experts and scholars from countries along the Belt and Road are invited to have in-depth discussions on ‘Belt and Road: Mutually Beneficial and Win-Win, Sharing Achievements’, ‘Lancang Cooperation: A New Era of ASEAN-China Co-operation’, and ‘China-ASEAN Co-operation’. The programme will include in-depth discussions on ‘Belt and Road: Mutual Benefits and Shared Achievements.

Attended the first meeting of the Advisory Committee on Sustainable Development between Tsinghua University and the University of Geneva.
In response to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and in line with the country's medium- and long-term development plan, Tsinghua University has made continuous efforts to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and has formed a strategic partnership with the University of Geneva to promote the development of the SDGs. The University of Geneva and Tsinghua University have formed a comprehensive SDGs strategic partnership to jointly promote the development of SDGs.
In January 2017, after the signing of the cooperation agreement on sustainable development witnessed by the heads of state of the two countries, the two universities jointly established the Centre for Sustainable Development, and cooperated in scientific research, joint training, summer courses, faculty and student exchanges and other series of work, and achieved a lot of results. At the same time, the two universities have taken advantage of the extensive cooperation established with United Nations agencies, international organisations and academia to actively form a international advisory committee for sustainable development.

Tsinghua University, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the United in Diversity (UID) and the Giti Group jointly organised a high-level roundtable on ‘The Future of Sustainable Development’ during the Davos Forum, with a view to realising the goals of sustainable development and building a platform for communication and cooperation between the government, industry, academia and research institutes. Invitations were extended to Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Luhut B. Pandjaitan, Special Envoy of the President of Indonesia and Minister of Maritime Integration, Prince Max von von der Kluwer of Liechtenstein, CEO of Liechtenstein Global Trust (LGT), and Prince Max von der Kluwer, CEO of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), One Ocean One Foundation (UID) and Giti Group. Prince Max von und zu Liechtenstein and more than 50 guests attended the event to discuss policies and actions to promote the SDGs through multi-stakeholder cooperation.

‘Global competence’ is one of the goals of Tsinghua University's talent cultivation, which includes international vision, cross-cultural awareness and self-cultural reconceptualisation in a global context. With this goal in mind, Tsinghua University has expanded its cooperation with international organisations to build a platform for students to enhance their overall quality, international vision, scientific spirit and creative ability. During his stay in Davos, President Qiu Yong met with a number of international organisations, including Liu Zhenmin, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Zhao Houlin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, and Mukhisa Kituyi, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), to discuss in-depth the exchanges and cooperation between Tsinghua University and the United Nations-related organisations.
