​The Second New Civilization Future and Sustainable Cities Forum held in Beijing

The 2nd New Civilization Future and Sustainable Cities Forum was held at Tsinghua University from 24 to 25 October.  Entitled 'New Technology, Entrepreneurship and Urban Development', the forum was co-hosted by Yeosijae Future Consensus Institute, the Institute of Sustainable Development Goals of Tsinghua University (TUSDG) and China Institute for Science and Technology Policy (CISTP). The forum gathered more than 20 experts and scholars in related fields from China and Korea.

Xue Lan, Dean of the School of Public Policy & Management, Tsinghua University (SPPM), Director of TUSDG, and Director of CISTP, and Lee Kwang-jae, Director of Yeosijae, and former Governor of Gangwon Province, were present and delivered opening remarks.

Xue Lan pointed out that the theme of ‘New Technology’ is closely related to China's current development - in the context of the new era, the development of new technology is the key to solving problems, which is linked to the future sustainable development of China and the world.

Opening Speech by Lee Kwang-jae

Lee Kwang-jae pointed out that the development of cities requires new advances, and that through the development of science and technology it is possible to create new city models that can improve human competitiveness and quality of life, while reducing costs and fundamentally changing the pattern of human life.

Afterwards, experts and scholars from both countries discussed and exchanged views on entrepreneurship, employment and urban development brought by new technologies.

After the keynote forum, the participating experts and delegates had a lively discussion. Zhao Huji, Professor of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Yeosijae Beijing Research Centre, Kim Dong-Joon, Managing Director of the Hanson UDM Institute, Korea, Seo Jeoungil, Professor of the College of Humanities, Seoul National University, Korea, Zhu Xufeng, Associate Dean of SPPM and Executive Director of the TUSDG, Liang Zheng, Associate Professor of the SPPM and Deputy Director of the CISTP, Li Zongze, Director of the International Institute for Labour Security, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, attended the forum and participated in the discussion and others attended the forum and participated in the discussions. This two-day forum facilitated discussions between China and Korea on urban development issues arising from technological change and changes in the working environment, and built a platform for the two countries to exchange experiences.
