Recently, the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) formally approved the nomination of 24 experts to the Committee for Development Policy (CDP) by the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. Zhu Xufeng, Professor and Dean of School of Public Policy & Management, Tsinghua University (SPPM) and Executive Director of the Institute of Sustainable Development Goals of Tsinghua University (TUSDG), was reappointed in his personal capacity to the UN Committee for Development Policy for a three-year term from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2027. Previously, Prof. Zhu Xufeng was appointed on January 1, 2022 as a member of the Committee for Development Policy.
The United Nations Committee for Development Policy (CDP) was established by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in its resolution 1998/46. Members of the Committee are nominated by the Secretary-General of the United Nations and appointed by the Council. Membership reflects a wide range of development experience as well as geographical and gender balance.
The United Nations Committee for Development Policy (CDP) advises ECOSOC on a wide range of issues related to the implementation of the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including Least Developed Countries (LDCs), development cooperation, global and multilateral governance, Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs), etc. The Committee also provides advice to ECOSOC on the implementation of the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Reviews (VNRs), etc. For example, it reviews the list of LDCs, submits reports to ECOSOC and the UN General Assembly and revises the criteria for reviewing LDCs and monitors the entry and exit of these countries from the list of LDCs. Members of the Committee attend annual plenary sessions at UN Headquarters in New York, deliver policy briefs, and support the Committee's panel meetings. In addition, members participate in other UN meetings, including the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
