On the afternoon of June 18, 2025, a delegation of six leading Brazilian research institutes visited the Institute for Sustainable Development Goals of Tsinghua University (TUSDG). The delegation was headed by André Loubet Guimaraes, Executive Director of the Instituto de Pesquisa Ambiental da Amazônia (IPAM), who was also appointed by the Brazilian Ministry of Environment as the Envoy to the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The delegation of research institutes also included Olivia Zerbini Benin, Research Analyst, Instituto de Pesquisa Ambiental da Amazônia (IPAM), Bibiana Alcantara Garrido, Director of the Publicity Department, Instituto de Pesquisa Ambiental da Amazônia (IPAM), Guilhaume Tessier, Senior Expert on Land Use and Sustainable Agriculture, iCS, Land Use and Sustainable Agriculture, Alice Thuault, Executive Director, Instituto Centro de Vida (ICV), Alexandre Alexandre Teodoro Mansur, Project Director, O Mundo Que Queremos Institute, Paulo Barreto, Assistant Research Fellow, Imazon, Mariana Miranda Freire Rondon, Project Director, Plataforma CIPÓ.
Zhu Xufeng, Professor and Dean of School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University (SPPM) and Executive Director of TUSDG, Lu Xi, Professor & Director, Division of Air Pollution and Its Control, School of Environment, Tsinghua University, Liang Zheng, Professor of SPPM, Dai Yixin, Associate Professor of SPPM, Peng Si, Program Manager of TUSDG, and Tan Yuhao, Program Assistant of TUSDG, attended the exchange. The visit was coordinated by BellaTerra Consulting, with Isabel Nepstad, Founder and CEO, and Jose Mario Antunes, Chief Operating Officer, in attendance.
The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on China's environmental policy and its implementation, covering a number of key areas such as climate change response, green agricultural development and green food production. At the same time, the two sides discussed the innovative application of artificial intelligence in environmental protection, focusing on its potential in environmental monitoring, resource management and ecological restoration. In addition, the two sides also exchanged views on the current progress and concrete ideas of academic cooperation and capacity building training. In the future, the two sides will continue to cooperate on COP30, global environmental governance and other sustainability-related issues.
