Applications Open | 2026 China-U.S. Youth Sustainable Development Social Deep Dive

Amidst the blooming blossoms and the vibrant energy of June, a new generation of leaders is rising. Have you heard of the SDGs (the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals) but never had the chance to explore them in depth? This summer, we warmly invite university students from China and the United States to cross the globe, gather at Tsinghua, and lead the dialogue on green development and shared global responsibility.

In November 2023, at a welcome dinner hosted by friendly groups in the United States, President Xi Jinping of China announced the major initiative of “inviting 50,000 young Americans to China for exchanges and study over the next five years.” On May 23, 2026, President Xi of China replied to students from both countries participating in the “A Shared Voyage: China-U.S. Youth Friendship Program” , noting that “more than 50,000 Americans have come to China for visits and exchanges, meeting the target two and a half years ahead of schedule,” and encouraging youth from both nations to “learn from one another and make progress together, act as ‘envoys of friendship’ bridging the Pacific Ocean”.

This program takes shape against this historic backdrop. Leveraging China's top academic resources and the cultural heritage of Beijing and Shanghai, the program offers a unique blend of experiential learning—from academic seminars to on-site visits. We aim to deepen your understanding of the SDGs and frontier technologies, broadening your horizons while forging friendships with like-minded peers.

【What You'll Gain】

  • Genuine friendships across borders: In the very year that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s “50,000 in Five Years” initiative is realized, the bonds you build beyond cultural differences will become a new chapter in youth exchange between our two countries.

  • A first-hand understanding of sustainable development: Move from the classroom into the real world, and experience the many faces of sustainable development through actual urban settings and institutions.

  • A broader global perspective: Through dialogue and exchange between Chinese and American youth, re-examine your understanding of the world and its future. Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a “Sustainable Development Youth Ambassador” certificate jointly issued by the Institute for Sustainable Development Goals of Tusinghua University (TUSDG) and Mebo Group.
