Institute for Sustainable Development Goals and SPARK UNDP SDG Innovation Lab (Chengdu) Releases Report on The Study of National High-Tech Zones’ Pathways in Promoting Cities’ Innovative Low-Carbon Transformation under Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality
In September 2020, China pledged to achievepeak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. The Government Work Report 2021 placed emphasis on achieving the two targets, highlighting China's determination and ambition to address climate change. Being the focus of both the present and the future, the Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality Goals is of great strategic significance.
Currently, the world is experiencing both the technological innovations and the industrial revolution. As the core carrier of high-tech industry development and independent innovation promotion, national high-tech zones are actively carrying out activities towards innovative low-carbon transition and leading the society in achieving the Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality Goals.
By collating and analyzing the opinions of 25 experts, the takeaways of the UNDP Re:Think 2021 conference, and the suggestions of advisory members, this Report evaluates and analyzes the potential pathways for national high-tech zones to assist cities’ low-carbon transition in different contexts and from various dimensions.
